Understanding

UNDERSTANDING.  Teachers are often commended for being so patient. While we are patient, it is our intentional UNDERSTANDING that guides our philosophy.   We UNDERSTAND that when a child is having a challenging day, there is typically something deeper going on and it is our job to problem solve and find ways to comfort and support them through the day.  When a 2 year old drops their cup of milk, we UNDERSTAND that at their developmental level, this is the normal process of learning how to use a cup. When children begin to wrestle in the classroom, we UNDERSTAND that this is because they are needing a physical outlet and that we need to find a more appropriate way for them to address this need. When a child comes to school without a jacket on a cold day, we UNDERSTAND that families are very busy and that we can provide support by having extra jackets at school for cases such as this.  We gained this UNDERSTANDING through extensive experience and education in the subject of early childhood.
